Colmi P8 Plus Smartwatch - Review

Colmi P8 Plus Smartwatch - Review

Let me take the opportunity to introduce you to the beautiful Colmi P8 Pro Smartwatch - the upgrade to the popular Colmi P8 Smartwatch. The Colmi P8 Pro Smartwatch released in 2021 comes full of upgraded features such as a bigger screen, better IP rating, upgraded health features and more.

Design and build quality

The Colmi P8 Pro Smartwatch rocks a modern luxurious design made with a combination of Zinc alloy, glass and soft plastic. It is a rectangular watch with a curved screen and a working multifunctional crown. The frame of the watch is made from a durable and lightweight Zinc alloy that gives the smartwatch an elegant look and feel.

When you turn around the Colmi P8 Pro Smartwatch you’d find the soft plastic bottom with the charging pins and health sensors. For a budget smartwatch, the design and built quality are above the rest.

The standard strap on the Colmi P8 Plus Smartwatch is made from comfortable, lightweight liquid silicone. It is comfortable on the skin and fantastic for all-day use. The strap has an easy release pin that you can use to easily change it with any standard 20mm watch strap.

Display

The bigger screen on the Colmi P8 Plus Smartwatch is certainly a wonderful addition - a 1.69 inch IPS screen with a resolution of 240 x 280 pixels. The resolution certainly has room to improve but for this price point, it is better than most models in this category of budget smartwatches. The colours are sharp and have very good visibility even in sunlight.

The 2.5D curved glass display with its narrow bezels is a sure treat typically found on high-end smartwatches. The Colmi P8 Plus Smartwatch operating system makes good use of the larger screen with easy to use buttons and menu icons. The Colmi P8 Plus has a great selection of pre-installed watch faces that can easily be accessed by rotating the multi-functional crown and via the Da Fit mobile app, you have over 100 additional customizable watch faces. You could even use your own photos as a watch face background if you fancy that.

Under the hood

The Colmi P8 Plus uses the GR5515 chip that allows the smartwatch to operate faster and is supported by 64KB RAM and a 64MB built-in memory. The Colmi P8 plus has the HRS3300 sensor that can measure your heart rate, blood oxygen levels and keep track of your steps.

The Bluetooth 5.1 technology helps lower power consumption and a more stable connection. The Colmi P8 Plus smartwatch is compatible with Android 4.4 and later or iOS 9.0 and above through the Da Fit App.

However, the one missing feature on the Colmi P8 Plus would be a GPS sensor, which means that it has to be connected to your smartphone to get your location.

Health and Fitness

You’d be happy to know that the Colmi P8 Plus comes with plenty of health and fitness functions. The P8 Plus has 8 sports modes - walking, running, cycling, skipping, badminton, basketball, football and swimming. Yes, swimming! The Colmi P8 Plus is IP67 water resistance so you can wear it in the shower, take it to track your swimming. It is rated to be under 1 m deep up to 30 min. However, they do recommend not to wear it in a hot bath. In addition, it can count your steps, distance and calories burned. These modes have to be selected manually before starting an activity but it seems to track well.

Apart from its sports features, the Colmi P8 Plus can automatically monitor your heart rate and sleep. Sleep analysis shows your total light sleep, deep sleep, and wake time. The sensor is also capable of measuring your blood pressure and blood oxygen levels in real-time.

The HRS3300 sensor on the Colmi P8 Plus is more accurate than most other sensors on similar budget smartwatches but the readings aren’t 100% accurate. It shouldn’t be used as a medical instrument but it will sure help you be aware of your health.

Battery Life

The Colmi P8 Plus offer fantastic battery life with its 190mAh battery. You can enjoy up to 5-7 days of normal use with continuous heart rate tracking and 20+ days in standby mode. The battery life strongly depends on the type of activities you do with your smartwatch, however, I’m happy to announce you will not be disappointed with its battery life.

The Colmi P8 Plus charges with the provided magnetic charger cable and it takes about 2 hours to fully charge the device.

Final words

For a budget smartwatch, the Colmi P8 Plus sure goes above and beyond with its big-screen display, great built quality, health and fitness features and long-lasting battery life. It certainly has room to improve but at this price point, I believe it's amazing.
