iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro Full Comparison

apple iphone 14 vs 14 pro full comparison

Four new iPhones are being released in the coming weeks: two regular iPhone 14 models and two iPhone 14 Pro models. This year Apple made a considerable distinction between its pro and non-pro models, making several features exclusive for the pro models. So if you are confused about which one to get, here is a detailed comparison between the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Size, Design & Colour

Even though iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro share the exact screen sizes, there are some differences between the materials used, the weight, and more.

The iPhone 14 is very similar to the iPhone 13, but the iPhone 14 Pro got significant design changes.

The notch finally disappears in the Pro models and is replaced by a smaller cut out which Apple like to call Dynamic Island. Overlooking the fancy name, this feature is an instant hit; the fluidity and the extra screen real-estate it provides are really pleasant to watch.

Apple also introduces an Always-On Display, a feature that was accidently leaked at Apple's WWDC 2022 event. Always-On Display
enables the screen to show you the lock screen widgets, the time, and your wallpaper at all times.

The dimensions of both models are the same. However, there is a big difference in the weight; the iPhone 14 Pro weighs noticeably more. This comes from the heavier stainless steel edges, the larger battery, and the larger camera modules (will cover the camera and battery in a bit)

The iPhone 14 comes in five colours: Midnight, Starlight, Red, Blue and a New purple finish.

The Pro models come in Silver, Gold, Space Black and Deep Purple.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Screen Size & Technology

Unlike iPhone 13, both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro come in the same screen sizes. Both of them have a 6.1-inch screen. For a larger 6.7-inch screen, you can avail the iPhone 14 Plus or the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

However, despite the size, there are some significant differences in terms of screen technology and features between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 pro.

iPhone 14 Pro offers

  • ProMotion display technology: gives a smoother experience with animations.
  • Digital Island: this replaces the notch
  • Always-On Display: enables the screen to show you your lock screen widgets, the time, and your wallpaper at all times.
  • Significantly brighter screen: iPhone 14 tops out at 1,200 nits of peak brightness while iPhone 14 pro peaks at 2,000 nits.

So if you are looking for a brighter, feature-packed screen, the pro models are for you.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Performance & Features

The iPhone 14 Pro takes a big leap from Apple's last release. It uses the latest A16 Bionic chip, which is Apple's first 4nm processor.

On the other hand, the iPhone 14 models are powered by an upgraded version of the A15 chip with an added GPU core.

Here's a breakdown of the full iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro specifications:

Safety features

Apple has come up with two exciting safety features. A new crash detection feature and satellite connectivity for emergencies.

An upgraded gyroscope and accelerometer are used by the new crash detection feature to detect when you're in a crashing vehicle. If involved in a car crash, it will automatically call emergency services and inform your close contacts unless cancelled. However, do note that this feature will work best if you pair your iPhone with the latest Apple Watch Ultra or series 8.

When you're out of cellular range, you can still use satellite connectivity to contact emergency services. This new feature is called Emergency SOS via satellite and is initially available in the US and Canada only.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Battery Life

Apple says there are some improvements in battery performance across the range. Here are the claimed figures in terms of video playback.

iPhone 14 Pro Max: 29 hours
iPhone 14 Pro: 23 hours
iPhone 14 Plus: 26 hours
iPhone 14: 20 hours

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Camera

Just like iPhone 13, this year's iPhone 14 has a dual-camera array with 12MP wide and ultra-wide lenses. But it has a faster aperture and a larger sensor on the primary camera, so camera performance should be better. Apple also claims that it will give 49% better performance in low light.

The front camera gets an upgrade too. It gains autofocus and has a wider aperture for better low-light photography.

If you thought the iPhone 13 Pro's camera module was chunky, then you should take a look at iPhone 14 Pro's. But it completely justifies this with the upgrades.

On the rear, the iPhone 14 Pro gains a 48MP wide-angle camera. The sensor is 65% larger than the Wide camera in the iPhone 13 Pro. It also has a Photonic Engine computational system, a new feature to help capture more details when light is scarce.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Storage, Price and Availability

The main differentiating factor when choosing between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro will come down to price. The price of the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are as follows:

There are three versions of the iPhone 14, and here are the prices.

  • iPhone 14 (128GB): £849 / A$1,399 /$799
  • iPhone 14 (256GB): £959 / A$1,579 / $899
  • iPhone 14 (512GB): £1,179 / A$1,899 / $1,099

There are four versions in iPhone 14 Pro and the prices are

  • iPhone 14 Pro (128GB): £1,099 / A$1,749 / $999
  • iPhone 14 Pro (256GB): £1,209 / A$1,899 / $1,099

  • iPhone 14 Pro (1TB): £1,649 / A$2,599 / $1,499

If we compare the prices of these iPhones for the same memory size. We see that iPhone 14 Pro is priced £250 higher than iPhone 14.

Regarding availability, both phones will be available from September 16, 2022. But, if you want to grab the iPhone 14 Plus, you will have to wait until October 9, 2022.

Which one to buy?

The iPhone 14 will be the most suitable iPhone for most people. They're less expensive, come in brighter colours, and have many of the same excellent features found on the Pro models. However, this is the first year where Apple explicitly undermined its iPhone 14 with an older processor and a significantly inferior camera. So, if you have the budget, like the dynamic island and need the best camera phone Apple currently offers, you should consider the iPhone 14 pro.
